Family of four from Israel moves to Portugal
Dave Leiderman is planning to move to Porto, and start his business in tech there. His family - two teenage kids, aged 13 and 16, and his wife, will be joining them, and everyone is excited about the prospect of living in Europe.
After I visited the country during a Tech conference in 2018, I realized this was a perfect place for me and my family to live in one day.
Dave Leiderman had been planning on moving to Portugal and incorporating his business in the country for a while. After a short but quite productive visit in 2018, he realized it had everything he was looking for in a new home:
The people are friendly, and you can easily integrate as most of the Portuguese speak English at a very proficient level. On a business point of view, it is ideal for Dave as the labour is cost effective in comparison to other countries, and on a personal side he could truly see his wife and kids creating beautiful memories in this country, even if it was very far and different from home.
Moving to a new country can be overwhelming - but the timing was right - his kids were young, and both of them longed for adventure, and the seed had been planted in the family. Everyone was ready to take this step.
Education was a big concern, and after talking to moviinn, Dave found out there were great international schools in Portugal that would get his kids perfectly prepared for their future.
He had only been to Lisbon, and Porto - and he already knew the latter would better fit his business. It was closer to industries that were relevant for his company, and highly skilled workforce was also abundant in the region.
Besides, his wife loved the elegance and charm of the city - and he could really see themselves living by the Douro river and enjoying all that Porto had to offer.
So, with moviinn's support, he found a temporary housing solution, and started to plan his move, step by step.
Discovering and Deciding
I had time to plan everything, and I wanted to make sure our journey would be well planned - there were a lot of important factors and we really needed to establish priorities. First, I needed to know whether there were any tax incentives and opportunities business wise, to ensure it was viable to start my company in Portugal. I also needed to have an idea on how the Portuguese economy was evolving, especially in the technology sector. And lastly, I needed support in understanding which steps we would have to take in order to start a company, find an office, and start hiring talent in Portugal.

Dave's process
"Although we felt like we didn't want to rush anything, it felt great to see how easy things became once we had moviinn's working with us - particularly the visa application and the support we got from the business incorporation team."
The Leiderman's Moving Timeline
Within the first call, it was clear that Dave should apply for the D2 Visa. moviinn's relocation specialist started to design a step by step plan so that the family could visualize what they needed to do over the next few months.
Start of Services
Dave had to take care of the process remotely, and moviinn made sure that the application was taken care of. It was important to structure a business plan, get proof of personal financial means and all due diligence.
Applying for a Visa
After the visa got accepted, the family started to plan their move - they set a date, and did virtual Real Estate tours with moviinn. They chose a rental that fit their family's needs, and moved to Portugal.
Arriving to Portugal
Dave successfully launched his business and he is happy that he will soon hire his first workers in Portugal. Expansion in Europe looks promising, and his family is happy in Porto. They got a 1 Year permit, and plan on applying for Portuguese nationality within 5 years.
