American couple moves to Cascais, in Portugal
Get to know Peter, 41, and Christine, 38, a couple from the US who moved to Cascais to start focusing more on their personal growth and business expansion to Europe.
I don't like loosing time with bureaucratic and administrative tasks - and when we started thinking of moving to Portugal, I was concerned about how much paperwork I'd have to deal with. Fortunately, we could count on moviinn to help us with this, and that was a huge relief.
Peter Massaro lived most of his life in New York, where he met Christine. When he was younger, he used to spend his holidays in California and started to love surfing, but he never got to really invest much time in this sport he truly loves. As for Christine, she loves living in the city, but she also longs for a calmer life, closer to nature but still close enough to a vibrant city.
While on holidays in Portugal a few years ago, they fell in love with Cascais - a picturesque town, that seemed to fit their goals. There were lots of expats moving to this place, an interesting culturally savvy community with which Christine identified with, and a lot of great minds that sought this type of calmer lifestyle while they built successful businesses online.
This seemed to fit both their goals for the future, and they spent the next 2 years planning the move to Portugal. For Peter, ensuring there were perfect conditions to manage his business in the USA from abroad, in this case, Portugal, was a crucial step. He knew he needed support from knowledgeable people on how to navigate this new country, and that's how he found moviinn.
There was no time to lose, and Peter definitely did not want to waste his resources with any unnecessary steps - he wanted things to be clear and simple, and he needed to be sure of how long everything (from visas, to getting a home, to finding an office space, etc.) would take.
Discovering and Deciding
We needed support in understanding which steps we would have to take to manage the business operations effectively from Portugal, including finding an office and building a social and professional network. moviinn's support with these issues was fundamental - and they advised us to get the D8 Visa. They've supported us with all the administrative and bureaucratic processes, and it was a stress free experience in which all our doubts were easily cleared.

Peter's process
"We were very worried that it would be hard to manage the company remotely - we have a luxury e-commerce platform which is quite profitable in the US, and it felt like the right time to invest in our quality of life in Europe. After the first few months in Portugal, we knew we made the right choice - we could deal with every part of our business without being in the US, and with moviinn's support we found a perfect co-working space, in which we also started to form meaningful business relations with people in our field of work. Now, we're getting ready to launch the platform in Europe, and we couldn't be happier. Without moviinn helping us figure out how to navigate this new tax and business system we could never have done it in such a short time."

Applying for a Visa
After a few months it became clear that Cascais was too remote for the couple's goals and interests - and with moviinn's support they found a new home and office space in Lisbon. They also decided to invest in real estate, and bought a home in Cascais where they spend their weekends.
Arriving to Portugal
They found balance and now are enjoying the best of both Lisbon and Cascais - good weather, beautiful coastline, good friends, and a great community of expats that keeps expanding.
